QTRCO has licensed Nuclear Logistics, Inc. of Fort Worth Texas to produce and supply all "Q" and "F" series actuators to the nuclear power industry.
NLI is a long established, fully qualified supplier to the nuclear market and will provide testing, QA and design reviews necessary to meet the stringent requirements of both critical service and balance of plant applications.
By agreement, all QTRCO actuators destined for nuclear power and nuclear waste clean up applications will be marketed, produced and supplied by NLI.

Replacing OBSOLETE CONTROMATICS ACTUATORS
Back to HOME
Q" and "F" series actuators are ideal for the nuclear market.
By their very nature, nuclear applications cannot permit valve or actuator failure regardless of the harse application conditions. However, even the most stringent quality assurance procedures cannot make an actuator failure free if the basic design is flawed. Previous to the introduction of the QTRCO FLAT YOKE actuator, scotch yoke actuators were accepted for critical service applications because they were the best thing available, despite numerous shortcomings. Please forgive our lack of modesty, but it is no longer required that users accept the inherent limitations of the typical scotch yoke design.
FAILURE IS NOT AN OPTION: While cycle count is normally low, radiation and other environmental conditions cause rapid deterioration of many plastic and elastomer based components. Seals which may be expected to fail in commercial applications cannot be allowed to fail when those charged with replacing them will be exposed to radiation.
WEAR: QTRCO actuators were not designed simply to reduce wear on seals but also to eliminate such seals. If a seal does not exist, it will certainly never fail.
BUSHINGS: While typical scotch yoke type actuators exert high loads on rod and shaft support bushings, the QTRCO design eliminates rod bushings and reduces side loading on shaft bushings to zero by balancing the applied forces.
MATERIALS: Uniquely, QTRCO actuators for nuclear applications have no soft parts such as bushings and seals with the sole exception of the piston o-rings - and - when required even the piston seals may be made of metal. Imagine an all metal actuator containing absolutely no plastic and no elastomeric parts. It is not your imagination, it is a QTRCO nuclear grade actuator.
and, by the way, QTRCO nuclear grade actuators are available is ductile iron or in all stainless steel construction.
WEIGHT: The "F" series actuators, and several sizes of the "Q" series are fully weight balanced as well as being lighter than typical scotch yoke designs. The center of gravity for double and single acting versions is at the center of the shaft axis and remains there at all actuator travel positions. By contrast, typical single acting scotch yoke actuators are very long and heavy on one end and their center of gravity moves as the actuator is operated. Where seismic events may occur, piping systems, actuated valves and the QTRCO actuators will, by virtue of their balanced weight and fixed COG, be less affected than will scotch yoke actuated systems.
